Standard 1 - Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach.

In 450, we were asked to make a traditional assessment. In art, traditional assessments are more commonly critiques, however sometimes more knowledge and safety-based exams are useful. It was interesting making a multi-disciplined art exam with questions ranging from pottery to metalsmithing. This document shows the flexibility of teaching art, from critiques to quizzes, aligning with element A of standard 1.

Another document created for 450, we were asked to present an instructional strategy from the book "Making Thinking Visible" by Ritchhart, Church, and Morrison. Unfortunately, I didn't video my presentation. Provided is my reflection of the peer teaching presentation. I led a discussion on some art pieces that my peers hadn't encountered before, and improved their visual literacy skills, meeting element C of the teacher quality standard one.

I believe I am proficient to advanced in this standard. I understand my content area and have successfully aided many students with their art queries. I was also able to aid the drawing 2 class with their linoleum carvings by suggesting they heat up the linoleum boards with an iron, which they were able to do easily. I can always improve on my pedagogical knowledge, and I will look into more techniques to teach my content as well as more ways to integrate art history and technology into my lessons.
