Standards Portfolio
Below, you will find the artifacts and rationale statements, the reflection statements for each standard, and the Professional Dispositions Reflection. For more in depth reflections of the schools and student teaching experience, I direct you to the "Art Journal" tabs.
I was placed at Johnson Elementary and Poudre Community Academy. For information about the schools, click on the "Student Teaching" tab. Due to the pandemic, my time at PCA was entirely digital teaching, but at Johnson I was able to teach online and hybrid for about four weeks each. I have learned to be constantly paying attention in the faculty lounge for any knowledge other teachers have regarding the formats to anticipate different struggles. As a teacher, I learned that I can contribute to help other teachers of varying experiences in this new format. Even in hybrid, wherein some students were at the school on each day, so much of the school was switching between different modes of teaching and recess and lunch that a few teachers almost gave up.
As a teacher this semester, I learned that students take away much more from you than you sometimes anticipate - I made very deep connections in each student such that I got a binder full of their thank you's and "don't leave" letters. I personally was recaptured in the enthusiasm of the students and the various discussions that got brought up during class, and reaffirmed in my decision to be a teacher. As a professional, I now have many points of connection in the art educator world, both online and in person; the collaboration I've had with other colleagues has inspired me to pursue my fellow educators in the future for friendships and advice.
Thirteen years after my decision to become an art teacher, and I am ready to help students learn and grow- in both life and art. I can't wait to grow with them. Without further ado, my standards portfolio:
