Professional Teaching Dispositions -
Exhibit dispositions required for effective teaching and professional practice
The two teaching dispositional areas that I am most comfortable with are being an effective communicator and professional behaviors. Professional behaviors feel like common sense to me, such that I almost don't think it is qualified to be a category. For example, why would anyone dress unprofessionally? Also, I would say I am an effective communicator in and outside of the classroom. I am a very reflective communicator, so I rarely communicate incomplete ideas without my having considered the reasons behind the ideas and people.
During my student teaching semester, I look forward to growing in all aspects, but I believe the area that will most improve is the initiative and dependability. I will have the opportunity to independently operate on lessons and other aspects of teaching, which has only rarely happened as of now in my teaching career. All art education opportunities directed by the art department have been in groups, with collaborative teaching being the emphasis. I can confidently collaborate, but with only two lessons taught independently, I will be able to learn many skills related to self sufficiency.
The most important disposition to me is the cultural responsiveness. After all, what are teachers without students? I will be ever improving in this area, but I want to create an community of learners if nothing else. The students should constantly be aware that education is focused for their achievement, and I aim to make that apparent with my teaching.
